Fellow Seniors,
At our recently held AGM the proposed Constitutional amendments were ratified by those in attendance. The Constitution now provides for a Committee of 8 members inclusive of the establishment of a 3 member executive. As it stands, we have a Committee comprising 6 members. We are hopeful that others will be attracted to fill the 2 gaps as we project a more inclusive, less proscriptive and a lighter workload for the SSGA volunteer Committee.
The members of the Committee are, in first name alphabetical order:
Bruce Threlfo (Carnarvon) – Chair
Dennis Marr (Shortland Waters) – Secretary and Treasurer Fred Sparksman (Hawks Nest)
Leigh Brydson (Waratah) – Captain
Paul Stephenson (Ryde Parramatta)
Steve Turner (Massey Park)
Steve Farr (Asquith), whilst not holding a position on the Committee, continues to provide invaluable support to the Committee with his in-depth knowledge of our association and his many years of experience as a golf club Director.
Before proceeding, we would like to take this opportunity to both acknowledge and thank, for their outstanding support, input and friendship, Eddie Hoskins (Kooindah Waters) and Rod McBride (Port Kembla) as former members of your NSW SSGA Committee.
Eddie, whilst deciding not to renominate for a further term on our Committee continues to take a leading role on behalf of his wonderful club, Kooindah Waters, at both the local and District level.
Rod, despite recently relocating south of the border, continues to provide assistance to the Committee as we move into 2025. His input and wonderful dry sense of humour will be sorely missed.
Many thanks Eddie and Rob for being part of such a wonderful team.

With regards to the Executive roles, they have been established to assist in spreading the workload. We have also built in a redundancy arrangement where each Executive position has a backup person. It is in keeping with our cloud data storage and dedicated email addresses which are now in place. Our association is no longer tied to an individual.
The united position of the Committee is to establish roles and mechanisms that provide for a smooth transition should a member or members not wish, or are unable, to continue as a Committee member.
Logo – We’d like to give everyone a heads up. We’re keen to replace our current logo, which as one Committee member commented – “It reminds me of an old golfer heading off into the sunset”. Our Chair, Bruce, will have more on this item very soon.
Zoom Meetings – Given the logistics involved in having face to face Committee meetings, most of our Committee meetings are conducted via Zoom. There are a couple of occasions where face to face meetings still occur. The main one being held in October where the activities of the recently completed pennant are reviewed and planning for the following year are discussed.
AGM – The Committee will be looking into how our Annual General Meetings may be conducted with remote access to members. Whilst appreciative of the attendance at our last two meetings by members from as far away as Tuncurry (6 hour round trip), arrangements to avert this level of commitment are long overdue.

We are very pleased to advise that Golf World and MGI have come on board as new sponsors for this year’s event after our previous retail sponsor left us in the lurch. Golf World have donated vouchers for use as prizes for various winners on the day. MGI have donated a SureShot SlimPro range finder, the latest addition to their product range, which will be raffled off at the presentation lunch, so make sure to get your tickets and be in the draw to win. We would encourage you to support both sponsors when considering your next golfing purchases.
Don’t forget to book your carts directly with the pro shop at Stonecutters.
Calendar Reminder:
- 21 April 25 – Super Senior Championship entry closing date.
- 19 May 25 – Team Nominations Forms return date.
Cheers until the next update. The Committee
